Carly Cap #10 December 11, 2009 – Inertia

Simply stated, inertia means an object at rest will remain at rest until acted on by an outside force.  Even though this week’s Carly scenes with Justin produced a little agitation in the storyline, I’m still waiting for that swift kick to get this thing rolling.  I get the same feeling I did when watching Lord of the Rings I and II.  After sitting through hours of death, confusion, and the occasional emaciated character, I find myself exactly where I started…searching for something precious.

The recap:

Carly arrives at Bo’s house to inform him moving in with Maggie didn’t work out.  All “hairography” aside, the hostile maternal haploid didn’t like the idea of Carly as house mom, and the other one agreed.  Bo’s wife is present and begins to question Carly about why she wanted to move into HER aunt and uncle’s house.  I would intentionally omit this diatribe again as I grow weary of the persistent Hopelessness, but it amuses me when Carly finds her brass ovaries and tells Bo’s little woman even though this is the holiday season, not everything revolves around Hope.  Carly informs Bo this has to end…I can’t agree more.

Picture 2The Brady Christmas tree arrives and Bo texts (texts?) his family to come over and help trim it.  Bo offers Carly a room for the night in light of it’s late and Hope and Sierra are probably off to bed anyway.  It doesn’t really matter; it’s two weeks before Christmas.  Carly remembers the historic date.  And you can see where this is going. It is a perfect opportunity for another flashback, the Bo and Carly pseudo Mayan marriage ceremony…90’s style complete with overly dramatic brows…I mean vows.

Picture 3Bo throws his own pity party about the loss of holiday Hope.  Carly offers him a hand of support that gently caresses his face and a comforting stare at his lips…just like all good friends do.  Justin sees the intimate gesture from outside the door and of course jumps to the wrong conclusion just as Hopelessness and Sierra arrive.    The kid enters and immediately asks why Carly is still there.  I won’t recap the re-tread of insecurity that is now the character of Hope.   Oh the therapy bills in that kid’s future!

Picture 4Carly and Justin leave.  They stop by the coffee house for a chat.  Carly quickly sees through the dimples and double speak and tells Justin to lay it on the line.  He tells her he thinks she is after Bo, and she should get the hell out of Salem.  Carly calls him on his fake sentiment and accuses him of holding out for a little Hope himself.  Have to say, best scene in Days, weeks, since Vivian and Carly.

Picture 5Justin tries to sabotage Carly’s interview at the hospital.  He tells committee member, Dr. Daniel, the applicant is better suited leaving town.  Simultaneously, Carly recognizes the general practitioning Jonas brother and races to embrace him in a medical convention-al kind of way.  Justin: Huh? What?

ah-HAHAHA! Great screencaps to illustrate the snark. Those were some good Carlivia scenes…livened up Days quite a bit, I must say. The warped viewpoints of Justin and Hopelessness are really irritating..surely there is a better way to write this! Well yes..say, schmootz, you’re a great writer, how about submitting a script or two? sigh..

Great snark, once again! Thank you for the recaps, I truly enjoy them.

Help! Please tell me you have thoughts (albeit not realistic) that they aren’t going to make Carly be a spoiler! I would SOOOOO love for Carly to find her own story, not return to Bo/be a spoiler (though Hope is being quite the insecure *itch) but rather……. her story alone maybe surrounding her newfound daughter, a new love that actually grows while that new mother/daughter relationship grows, etc. I just want her to be her own woman, ya know? We haven’t even gotten to REALLY see her strut her stuff at all and we are about 2 months in!

Ok… I wasn’t a huge Carly 1.0 fan and so far not a huge 2.0 fan. But I am not “turned off” yet. However, if they make her just a spoiler and relying on say Bo to “make” her story, it will be very hard to stick with it.

Any thoughts?? Love your take on things Mindschmootz… would love to hear!

Great cap Schmootz… and thoughts… I sure have tons. We now have Carly hanging around (and having a backstory with) ‘Dr. Feelgood’, we know from the snark that they throw at each other a Carly and Justin pairing could be coming AND her job at the hospital an obvious plot point in the not so distant future.

I am not feeling the angle of the story that involves Bo either. Hope sucks she can have her “old” man I for one think Carly needs her own story with the younger sexier Dr Dan perhaps she may eventually find her way back to Bo but for now Hope can her man the one she takes for granted constantly by the way. Finally, I am sick and tired of the poor acting from Kristian Alfonso she is so sickening she plays one emotion constantly and it so pathetic. I would think that after over 25 years on soap operas her acting would have improved but sadly she has no more talent than she had in 1983.

In response to nicki_mo_65, and thanks for asking my thoughts, I would like to see Carly stand on her own as well. As evident by the scenes with Vivian and with Justin, it is obvious CC is comfortable with antagonism, and quite frankly, she is best in this role. My favorite scenes as Otalia were the fight scenes! She brings humor to the fight, and I love that. I would like to see more of this humorous aggressor.

Foil, foil who is the foil? CC swears Carly is not BO’s. Justin swears he is not Hope’s… hmmmm who the hell is the foil then? Foil and prattle, toil and babble, just what Salem needs. Vivian is the perfect witch, let her cast the spell that gets some magic going. PLEASE! Someone needs to brew a wicked eggnog laced with energy inducing vitamins just for the writers, too.

  7. Julie says:

Everyone in Salem thinks they have the right to tell Carly what to do and where she could go. They just seem petty. Let Carly and Vivian have the fun and the others should get over themselves.

Inertia is the tendency for objects in motion to continue in motion and objects at rest to remain at rest. It has nothing to do with outside forces. This story could easily fix itself by allowing Crystal Chappell to be the strong force that she is, both comically and dramatically, and by introducing a female love companion for her…preferably Jessica Leccia.

  9. admin says:

Newton’s First Law: “Every object remains in a state of rest or of uniform motion in a straight line unless acted upon by an outside force.” Newton’s First Law = Inertia In my work, I like to think of it as part of the trifecta of force.

The best thing about the Carly recaps for such a slow going storyline is the humor you inject. Thanks
