Tiger’s Triple Bogey Underscores Marriage Double Standard
First let me say I couldn’t give any less of a damn where Tiger puts his wood or his iron. The fact the Tiger got hungry and went out for a little Grubb is a matter concerning only the celebrity golfer and his life caddie. He owes me no apology and certainly owes me no remorse. He is a human being who is paid very well to put his ball in a hole; the fact that he does that off the green is not surprising.
What does cause point to ponder is that in the very same week that Tiger is accused of playing out of the rough with THREE mistresses, the New York State Senate voted down a bill legalizing gay marriage 38 – 24, where the opposition justified their vote by stating same-sex marriage is a threat to traditional marriage. You have got to be fucking kidding me. The biggest threat to “traditional” marriage of any kind is philandering hypocrites like Newt Gingrich, Sen. David Vitter, Sen. John Ensign, Gov. Mark Sanford, and hell, we might as well throw in that bastion of traditional family values, Rush Limbaugh, and his impending FOURTH marriage. Last time I checked, these upstanding American citizens are straight as the proverbial arrow, but then again, that’s also the professions of Sen. Larry Craig and Rep. Mark Foley.
In the last few weeks, we have listened with appall at news stories involving teens who set fire to another child over a dispute about a bike, a woman sold her five-year-old daughter, who was raped and murdered, to a pedophile for drugs, and though a much less heinous a crime, a Colorado father pimps his child out to bask in a little balloon-boy publicity. ALL of these are the product of “traditional” marriage.
How dare you, the pompous and the pious, stand and tell me and my partner of MANY monogamous years that we are a threat to marriage and family. Against your own standards for society, you have been measured, and you have come up just short of the pin. Marriage, family, and tradition are not threatened by homosexuals who desire a legal, loving commitment. Marriage and family are undermined by infidelity, addiction, abuse, greed, the economy, divorce, and many other human frailties that are simply par for the course in Homo sapien life. As far as Maine, California, and New York are concerned, I say we ask for a mulligan and tee up the Constitution of the United States for a change. All in favor? FORE!

3 cheers from myself, my partner of 20 years and our nearly 11 year old son.
I’m with Meredith Baxter in believing that if those senators knew us, we would not be having this kind of debate,
Thanks for having the guts to be on the front lines. Our marriages are just
as ‘real’ and a damn sight more committed than most hetero couples we know.
AS my son says, “I’ve had one set of parents my entire life and they still like each other. You can count the kids in my grade who have that on the fingers of two hands and have a couple left over.”
Thanks, Mary from someone who is trying to show the world that they have nothing to be afraid of from our families – and maybe a few things to learn.
Double standards in American Politics and Pop Culture – like peanut butter and chocolate… they go hand in hand.
You would think with 24 hours news cycles someone would get on TV and tell it like it is and then people would listen but then again, as witnessed on a repeat of Ellen this week, people in this country aren’t the smartest tools in the shed. (for the record a woman was asked who the VP was and she couldn’t answer…. REALLY!!!)
Marriage is one of the most sacred ceremonies that we humans experience. Being married also gives us happines.~”.
marriage is great specially if you have found a very special someone that is beautiful both on the inside and outside.:-,
