There is Justice in a Big Fat Liberal

Not that President Obama is in need of my advice in his vetting process for a replacement for Supreme Court Justice, John Paul Stevens, but just in case he is pursuing the blogosphere for a little progressive persuasion, I have a suggestion that I think might be useful in light of the current political atmosphere.  Nominate a big, fat, Birkenstock-wearing, Boulder-living, Berkley graduate, beatnik Liberal with a medical marijuana card.

No?  Why not?  No matter who the President brings to the table, the opposition is just going to complain about who’s coming to dinner.  It’s happening already.  Nanoseconds after Justice Stevens announced his impending retirement, the airwaves were full of fear mongering in the descriptive of, “radical”, “activist”, and “litmus test”.  Litmus test?  That term always makes me laugh.  Do you really believe these people know what litmus paper is?  Maybe they do as it is an acidity test, and what is more acidic than the political attitude of those who use the public airwaves to proclaim themselves proponents of the right wing?

Hillary Clinton’s name has been circulated.  Now, I think Hillary is an excellent candidate.  She has been confirmed once by these same Senators already, she is a former member of “the Hill 100 club”, and to imply that the Clinton machine could ever be considered anti-corporate crusaders on the free market would be folly.  For skeptics, I say Telecom ’96 and NAFTA.  However, if Sec. of State Clinton were given the very slim chance of nomination to SCOTUS, she would be labeled a socialist, a baby killer, an atheist, a homo-lover, a feminist, and a Marxist…before the hearings ever start.

Here is my point.  A moderate nominated to this position will be blocked and skewered with the same Liberal moniker as an actual Liberal, so why not fight for an actual Liberal on the court?  I know, radical, right?  The election is over and the left won.  The previous victor, George Bush, was afforded the luxury of spoiling the court with big fat conservatives like Roberts and Alito, and hell, you can’t get more spoiled than Scalia, who was appointed by George the first.  Just as the north won the war of southern indiscretion, just as Brown won the decision over the Board of Education, Obama won the battle of the mavericks.  He should be given his shot at Justice.

Yeah because nothing says ‘advocate judges’ like the folks the republican’s have brought to the table. Why not balance the scales!!!!!

Agree with you, besides a liberal nominee would not change the mind set of the court. Although, i am hoping for Justice Sears. L
